A casual glance at this photograph might suggest that it was made immediately at sunrise. In fact, if you look at the angle of shadows on the canyon behind, it is clearer it was some 90 minutes later. A technical point, perhaps, but one worth remembering when working in mountainous regions: it pays to be sensitive to the topography around you. I had determined from map contours and measuring in situ that the sun would not crest the ridge behind this village until some 90 minutes after dawn. We were therefore able to shoot sunrise elsewhere in the canyon first, before proceeding to this location.
