The little chapel dwarfed by a passing thunderstorm In the hotter months from May to August, Tuscany can be prone to violent thunderstorms, and once a storm can be seen approaching, it is usually not hard to get to this location from elsewhere in the Val d'Orcia. Minutes before this image was made, the chapel had disappeared completely from view as my vantage point was pelted with heavy rain. Then it emerged into piercing sunshine against the backdrop of the storm.

The arrangement in this picture is all about proportion. If you want to emphasize the power of a storm, bury something which is usually significant under a vast amount of sky.
